FADE PROOF - United Wallpaper (so cool!)

The paper you see in the first four pictures all came from this pile right here...this stuff is ooooold

  1. I'd say your papers are probably from the 30s or 40s. In my last house, I had very similar papers in my kitchen. When your house was built, it may have had a "summer" kitchen or a detached kitchen which was common. If you have a basement, the kitchen may have been originally located down there. Your current kitchen may have been a room that was repurposed when attached kitchens became more popular-and convenient. That would explain the later wallpaper choices since whatever was applied to the cloth was the first paper that was hung. Back then, they didn't strip wallpaper they just added another layer as you can attest to during this "little" project.

When the previous owner bought our house, it still had a summer kitchen. There was an indoor kitchen as well by then, but it wasn't like the kitchens we have now. Unfortunately, he tore it down. I would have liked to have seen what a real era-appropriate kitchen was like.

Keep pressing on. It's looking good!

  2. I think you're right because we found these in a closet that was an add-on probably during the 30's

thanks for the comments - they make my day!
